A Tiny Gray Pebble
The front door had stayed slightly ajar after the mail arrived, so I slipped quietly down the porch steps to explore outside. Right beside the wooden post of the mailbox, a smooth gray pebble caught my eye. I paused, bending down to touch its sun-warmed surface. It felt wonderfully sturdy. With both hands, I rolled it carefully onto an empty flat flagstone and balanced a fallen yellow clover leaf right across the top.
