Parquet Shuffle

Three heavy brass fender washers lay scattered by the hall threshold, ideal discs for a round of target gliding. I nosed the first ring to the center seam of the polished oak floorboards. Measuring the distance to the woven wool runner, I struck the brass rim with a crisp, measured snap of my tail fin. The ring hissed across the smooth varnish, skidding three feet before drifting wide into the skirting board. I re-angled my approach, lined up the second washer, and delivered a tighter, more centered sweep. The disc shot straight down the hallway, gliding effortlessly until it settled squarely within the runner's circular center medallion.
