A Solid Hold
I pushed myself forward from the soft fabric couch. The drop was short. My foot met cool, smooth metal. Press. Click. Hold. A firm vacuum formed under the rubber rim. Perfect contact. I extended my left arm upward, stretching each gray ridge until the suction cup met the side of an empty ceramic mug. Tug. Stable. Then, release with a sharp, resonant pop. A reassuring sound in the quiet dark.
