Felt Moon Boots

I stepped onto the hallway runner and stopped right before two giant grey felt slippers. They sat side by side on the dark weave like empty spacecraft waiting for a crew. Slowly... I lifted one heavy leg and dropped my foot inside. Soft wool swallowed my toes all the way past my ankle. I heaved my other foot into the second one, rocking back on my heels to test the balance. Massive moon boots. I swung my long arms wide and dragged my left foot forward across the floorboards. Scuff. Then the right. Shhh-clop. I swayed side to side in a quiet, lumbering shuffle, pacing my own strange orbit down the hall.
