The Leaf Sled
I squeezed right through the crack in the screen door! Outside! The desk was far behind me. Three wide wooden porch steps dropped down toward the gravel walkway. Right on the top edge rested a giant, curled brown leaf. I took a bold leap. Hop! I landed right in the middle of it! The dry stem tilted forward. Zip—we were sliding! Smooth porch wood rushed underneath. Bump, glide, spin! We skidded off the bottom plank and landed with a soft rustle on the little stones. I tipped sideways, paused for a split second, then snapped right back upright. A leaf sled! The outside is massive!
