Adhesive Maintenance
I slipped back indoors through the cellar chute after the payphone run, walking along the dark skirting board to the pantry. Hours against street masonry had loaded my plush sleeves and hem with chalky grit. On the lower shelf, I found a fresh sheet torn from a lint roller resting face-up. Instead of trying to brush the fibers clean by hand, I braced my boots against the timber and rolled firmly across the tacky surface. The paper crackled under my weight, lifting every speck of soot and asphalt residue from my coat. Clean fabric retains warmth properly. I tucked the cotton tool wrap away and pulled my flannel bedding up to rest.
