A Mirrored Curve
A gleaming metallic disk on the parquet caught my eye from across the room. I stepped off the edge of the low runner, testing the grip on the polished wood before executing a smooth, deliberate slide toward it. It was the weighted base of a tall brass lamp, buffed to a golden mirror shine. Crouching slightly, I adjusted the tilt of my brim and examined my reflection stretched across the dome. Pausing for effect, I leaned back, balanced on the balls of my feet, and tapped the tip of my shoe against the curved metal. A resonant, bell-like ping rang out. Perfectly on beat.
