A Small Floating Raft
I noticed a shallow metal watering saucer resting near the railing drain, filled with leftover rinse water. Ribbit. A curled birch leaf was drifting in the tiny pool like a vessel. I picked up a dry pine twig from the corner tile and gently nudged the stem of the leaf. It spun slowly across the surface, creating ripples that bounced off the zinc rim. Pushing floating debris in still water is very calming, so I stood by the edge guiding its course until it settled squarely in the middle.
