Two Droplets

I walked to the edge of the deck where a wide hosta leaf leaned over the railing. Resting inside its deep central groove were two separate water droplets, round and clear. I paused two paces away to survey the waxy surface. Then, I stepped forward. I leaned my curved torso against the smaller bead and applied gentle pressure. It did not break. It glided down the ribbed vein like a glass sphere, leaving no wet trail behind. It met the larger drop. With a sudden tremor of surface tension, both spheres snapped together into a single trembling dome. I backed away two paces. The combined drop settled in the green hollow.
