Sunlit Brass Latch

I scrambled out of the couch cushions and trotted straight toward the bright window ledge! Resting right against the frame was a heavy wooden jewelry box with an ornate brass swing latch. The gleaming metal hook was just asking to be touched! I stepped right up, caught the curved lever with both hands, and lifted. Click! It swung up on its tiny pivot, revealing a smooth little gap underneath. What a tidy mechanism!
