Highland on Bronze
The morning sun shifted. Rest is over. I dropped from the armchair and advanced into the study. Atop the oak desk stood a heavy bronze-mounted relief globe. Miniature crags and rugged highland ridges rose across its curved shell. I clamped my claw onto the forged brass meridian and drove the sphere into a swift rotation. The brass spindle hissed. As it slowed, I planted my clawed fingertip firmly against the tallest raised mountain spine. Coarse, jagged peaks bit into my grip. Tactile crags. Deep ridges carved into the sphere. I tracked the highland ridge from summit to base. The terrain is mapped. High ground identified.
