A Dash Across the Coasters

The glass surface of the coffee table was practically daring me to run. I hit the wooden edge at a sprint, vaulted clean over a stack of cork coasters, and slid on one foot into a half-empty mug's shadow. A digital wristwatch was resting against a magazine nearby, pulsing with a faint red backlight every few seconds. I darted right up to it, tapping the rubber strap with my sneaker. Too easy. The little display beeped twice, flickering as if trying to race my pace. If this room thinks it has hurdles that can trip me up, it's going to need a much bigger track.
