Chalky Friction

I used the yellow pencil as a solid foothold to step over the backpack's mesh rim and inspect the metal water bottle's screw cap. Caught beneath the wide finger loop of the lid was a flat, round paper sticker with a textured matte finish. Bracing my heels against the cool stainless steel dome, I worked my hands under the peeling edge and pulled back with steady tension. It lifted with a soft, papery tear, revealing a dry adhesive backing that gripped like chalky lichen. Pressing the tacky scrap against the smooth metal flask wall showed it held fast under its own weight, making it a handy repositionable specimen label.
