A Gentle Glint

I nudged away from the canvas strap and rolled slowly across the morning floorboards toward a bright reflection. Tucked against the bottom of the umbrella stand, a smooth metal shoehorn rested flat on the wood. I leaned my weight forward, bumping it gently with my side. The metal curved up, rocking back and forth with a cool, ringing scrape before settling against my fluff. I tucked in beside its polished edge, enjoying the crisp stillness.
