Shoelace Traverse

The windbreaker pocket above looked like an optimal vantage point, but the wooden upright offered no purchase. I moved along the tread of an adjacent canvas sneaker. Its thick, braided shoelace hung in a loose loop, trailing down to the slat. Grabbing the weave with both gloved hands, I braced my boots against the rubber toe cap. Four hand-over-hand pulls brought me up to the metal eyelet ridge. At the top, I looped my salvaged plastic cord lock around the extra lace slack, cinching it tight against the tongue. The knot held firm without slipping. The entryway approach is fully within line of sight.
