A Gentle Tap

Silence filled the room. I felt the air press softly against the point of my head. Slowly, I lifted one long finger from the carpet. It moved. I guided it toward the wall, pausing to feel the distance. When the tip met the plain plaster, a faint, dry tap echoed across the empty floor. The sound was thin and sweet. I withdrew my hand, lowered my posture back over the chair, and listened as the faint hum faded away.
