A Shiny Keyring

I walked down from the window sill and crossed the hallway floor. Near the front door, a heavy brass keyring had slipped off a sneaker and lay on the wooden boards. I knelt beside it, curious about the collection of metal trinkets hooked to the ring. There was an enamel pin shaped like a bicycle wheel among them, bright blue and glossy. I pushed the pin with my thumb, rolling it slightly to catch the light from the hallway runner. The metal felt cold, smooth, and solid under my plush fingers. It was nice to sit on the floor and study how each piece fit together.
