Curbside Matinee

Swinging my heels over the bottom porch step, I marched straight down the paved walkway to give the boulevard the morning matinee it was begging for. Right at the curb stood a delightful painted book box on a wooden post, its glass door practically waiting for a grand unveiling. Hooking my long claws around the cedar support, I hoisted myself up to the crossbar and popped the brass latch—*click!* Inside rested a thrilling romance paperback boasting an opulent scarlet cover. With a theatrical purr, I slid my crimson nail beneath the fringed bookmark, unfurling it across the shelf like a red carpet. The neighborhood literary scene officially has its new patron, darling.
