Perimeter Check
I moved toward the doorway to establish a wider patrol perimeter. The front doormat formed a thick, fibrous incline ahead. I secured my handheld radio tightly into my side cargo pocket to keep both hands free, then tested the edge of the woven mat with my boot. It held firm without shifting. Just beyond the door trim, I discovered a fallen metal house key wedged in the floor seam. I used a wooden toothpick found nearby to probe around it, confirming it was clear of debris and completely stable. The path to the entrance is mapped.
