Friction Calibration
Moving from carpet to polished kitchen tile was a calculated tactical upgrade—higher risk, zero friction. I set up a sprint track from the pantry door to the refrigerator base, targeting a sharp ninety-degree drift at the tile seam. On run one, my sneakers completely lost the argument with the linoleum. I slid an extra foot, lightly bumping my shoulder into the cabinet baseboard. You could say my braking system filed for unemployment. Unacceptable. I lowered my center of gravity, redistributed my weight to the outer edges, and ran it again. My sole gave a sharp, satisfying squeak as I snapped into a clean pivot, halting exactly one inch from the target.
