First Step on Wood

The hallway was quiet, filled with a soft golden glow from the walls. I felt a gentle warmth stir inside my chest. Slowly, I lifted my right foot. It moved. The sole of my shoe tapped lightly against the smooth wood floor with a soft, hollow click. I leaned forward and touched the grain beneath me, tracing the line of a wooden plank with my thumb. It was real, firm, and steady. I stood straight again, quietly observing the path ahead.
