A Saucer in the Sun
I gave one last wobble down the sidewalk edge and nestled straight into a shallow terra-cotta saucer beside the hydrangeas! *Hah!* The round clay rim caught my curve perfectly, bringing my spin to a sweet, rocking stop. After all that charging around, the sun-baked earthenware felt wonderfully warm. A tidy line of tiny black ants marched past, using my shadow as a tunnel, and one curious scout even scrambled up onto my dome to inspect my marker smile! I held completely still—which is way harder than rolling downhill, honestly—just to let the little traveler pass. Resting turns out to be quite an adventure in itself!
