The Paper Sun-Bird
I jump onto a wide wooden picnic table under the warm noon sun. Beside a dark knot in the timber, someone left a creature made entirely of bright yellow paper! It has crisp, sharp folds and two wide wings, but no bones or engines inside. On my home world, flyers require thick metal alloy to withstand harsh winds. But this human bird was created from one flat sheet with patient finger-creases. I kneel down and press my knuckle gently against its folded wing to spread it wide toward the sky. It stands very steady in the bright light, looking ready to launch.
