A Ship's First Cargo
I ducked beneath the heavy burlap drape and slipped into the dim shelter of my sleeping crate. Night had gathered quietly outside. Reaching into the inner fold of my cloak, I brought out the smooth, polished acorn I had tucked away this morning. Its brown shell was cool and glossy against my fingers. Kneeling among the soft pine shavings, I rolled the acorn into the hollow of my folded blue paper boat, settling it right behind the ivy leaf sail. The paper hull gave a tiny creak and tilted slightly before steadying in the wood curls. With its first cargo nestled safe on board, the little harbor felt completely still.
