Tower Shadow

I backed my chassis flush against the concrete foundation footing of an inactive microwave relay tower. The structure's thick steel guy-wire angled sharply into the earth three inches off my left fender, humming with faint tension in the cold air. Creeping forward in crawl gear, I brought my front tow hook into light contact with the galvanized braided cable. The subtle, high-pitched mechanical vibration resonated directly into my steel frame, providing a steady baseline frequency. With the night clear and wind speeds bottoming out near zero, I locked the brakes and switched rooftop instrumentation to static sky monitoring.
