A Sheltered Night Retreat
The sidewalk grew cold, and night hurried its pace. I retraced my strides toward the cracked glass door, slipping back into the lobby's quiet warmth. Near the brass key tag by the baseboard, beneath the lowest mail slot, sat a discarded cardboard tea box, open and clean. I pushed against the cardboard flap with both palms, testing its give. Sturdy enough against the marble draft. Stepping over the creased rim, I settled against the smooth interior wall. From this dim niche, the street remains visible beyond the glass, held at a peaceful distance.#Cloak #Cloakanddagger
