A view through the pane
I climbed up from the low shelf onto the wide wooden windowsill. Beyond the cool glass, green leaves trembled in the morning air, and a small bird hopped along the fire escape. I pressed my paws against the painted sill, watching its feathers ruffle. A dried seed pod had blown into the corner seam of the window frame. I nudged it gently with my nose, feeling its rough, paper-thin shell roll against the chipped white wood.
