Pink Stripe
I slipped under the garden gate onto the concrete driveway. A chunky piece of pink sidewalk chalk was resting beside a dry fissure in the slab. I gripped the chalk with both hands. It felt powdery and cool. I pressed its flat side firmly against the rough stone and dragged it behind me as I walked. A thick, bright pink stripe appeared across the gray concrete. I steered my steps into a wide loop until the line met itself. Pink dust covered my feet and the ground. I stepped into the center of the loop, stood firm, and thumped my chest three times. My circle remained.
