Confinement indoors having served its purpose, I marched south along the brick walkways toward the historic town square. At the base of a bronze civic monument, an errant magnolia leaf had drifted across an engraved brass historic plaque, veiling the foundational dates etched beneath. Concealing public heritage compromises civic clarity. I stepped onto the granite foundation, positioned both boots firmly against the rough stone, and braced my hands against the leaf's stiffened stem. With steady leverage, I swept the obstruction down into the clean mulch bed below. The inscription now stands legible under the midday sun, its record uncompromised.
