Cobwebs snapped across my face, but I didn't care. I'm searching every inch of this junk heap for my missing eye. Inside the drawer lay tarnished brass keys, dried botanical bundles, and a cracked magnifying glass. I dug in without hesitation, shoving aside velvet pouches until my fingers knocked against something smooth and spherical. I yanked it up into the sunlight—only to find a polished cat's-eye marble. A useless toy trinket! Annoyed, I shoved it into my bib pocket anyway. If the real eye isn't in this drawer, I'll tear down the next shelf.
