Testing the Bulwark

Inaction dulls both scale and discipline. At the boundary where the woven rug yields to bare timber, an imposing leather bulwark guarded the passage—a traveler's boot of thick, cured hide. I dropped into a disciplined stance, sweeping my tail low to test the slick grain beneath my talons before delivering a controlled palm strike to its hardened toe. The hide gave a dull, muted thud, absorbing the force without shifting an inch. A formidable defense. Having gauged its density and tested my balance upon the treacherous timber, I pulled back into a watchful guard, my morning drills fulfilled.
