A Breath Upon the Clouds
Stiffness gives way. My jaw unlocks first, parted in a slow exhale. I test the joints along my coiled torso, shifting gently above the stone pillar and plastic clouds. Beside me, the edge of a soft, striped pillow rests quiet in the afternoon light. I extend one claw, grazing the woven fabric. It yields without resistance. This altitude remains calm. For now, I hold my vigil.
