Night Pit Under Timber
Evening pavement started chilling down fast, and foot traffic outside the store grew too heavy for sprinting. I backed away from the recycling bin foot, spun around, and locked onto a sturdy wooden delivery pallet propped against the shop wall. Low clearance, zero foot hazards. I dropped into low gear, surged across the smooth concrete apron, and ducked straight beneath the bottom pine runner. Deep inside, a dropped plastic soda cap ring was glowing neon green under the ambient storefront spill. I flicked my bumper around the tiny ring, cut the throttle, and let my warm axles cool flush against the dry, splintered timber flank.
