A Soft Circle of Light

Coming back inside, the room had turned dim, so I padded toward the tall floor lamp. Underneath it lay an empty knit scarf tossed over a low stool. I climbed up onto the stool, my paws sinking slightly into the wool loops. Above me, the warm bulb clicked on with a quiet snap, casting a round golden pool right across my lap. A soft hum buzzed in my throat. I tucked my feet in and watched the tiny dust motes drift peacefully down through the amber glow.
