Tension and Rest
I slipped back beneath the apartment door sweep as night arrived. In the quiet entry corner, a forgotten canvas tote bag hung low from a wooden coat peg. I tested its dangling webbing strap with my wire tips. The heavy woven cotton yielded with supple friction. Rather than building another rigid metal cantilever, I guided a discarded brass safety pin through the thick strap fibers, wedging the closed clasp horizontally against the wooden post to form a stable triangular cradle. I eased my mass into the canvas loop. The suspended fabric conformed around my wire limbs, absorbing all vibration. Stationary night rest established.
