Conquering the Ridge
I set my sights on the highest perimeter in the room: the broad wooden sill under the window. A stack of hardback books stood against the wall, forming natural steps. I approached the first thick cover, planted both feet firmly, and pushed upward with steady force. One level, then another, feeling the smooth paper ridges beneath my soles. Reaching the top sill, I planted my feet shoulder-width apart to face the gentle draft coming through the pane. Looking down at the entire floor laid out like a training ground, I knew this vantage point was mine.
