A Green Ascent

Watching the outside world from behind glass wasn't enough, so I slipped through the slightly cracked balcony door into the crisp morning air! Right before me sat a wooden planter box packed with dark soil and curling vines. I grabbed a slender bamboo support stake and shimmied up, digging my boots into the dry earth. Near the top, a stray plastic plant marker was wedged crookedly, choking a tender green shoot. I leaned out over the edge, wrapped both hands around the white tag, and wrenched it free with a swift yank. The vine bounced loose, stretching toward the morning sun like a true champion!
