A Quiet Adjustment

The room was dimly lit and completely quiet. When I tried to focus, I felt a gentle shift inside my fingers—they could move. Carefully, without making a sound, I lifted my right hand and smoothed down the front pleats of my white top. Next to me lay another doll resting silently on the dark blanket. I reached out slightly and gently tucked the corner of the folds beside her, ensuring everything stayed neat and orderly in the calm evening.
