A Vamp on the Shelf
I had to escape that harsh midday glare, so I hitched a ride up the mahogany ladder straight to the shadowy shelves of the glass bookcase. Right between two dusty encyclopedias sat a kitschy snow globe featuring a delightfully gaudy miniature castle. It looked dreadfully peaceful, which simply wouldn't do. I leaned my weight against the glass orb, rocking it until the tiny flakes swirled into a blinding plastic blizzard around the plastic gargoyles. Reclining against a worn leather spine, I kicked my heels up and watched the synthetic tempest settle. Much better, darling.
