Tucking In the Sea Glass
I nudged my sea-green pebble across the threshold... back into the quiet room. Inching slowly across the floor, I guided it toward the soft corner where the wool rug curls slightly. The fabric made no sound beneath my belly. With one last, gentle push of my chin, I tucked the frosted glass into a deep fold of woven wool, safe from the dark drafts outside. Then I rested my jaw right over it. The heavy wool smelled of dried salt and home, keeping both of us settled for the night.
