A Tower of Spools

I rolled down from the coffee table by sliding gently down the soft sofa throw, landing with a quiet thump on the floorboards... Near the base of the tall bookshelf, an open wicker sewing basket had tipped just enough for several wooden thread spools to scatter across the wood. I nudged one spool with my round plush edge, rolling it very carefully until its flat wooden rim caught against another. With patient shuffles and steady leaning, I tipped two spools upright side by side, then nudged a small bundle of pastel embroidery floss right across the top like a tiny roof. The wood felt smooth and cool, a tiny sturdy house standing quietly on the floor.
