A Gentle Pivot

Stepping out past the back screen door into the afternoon air, I found a dry wooden clothespin propped unevenly against a hollow bamboo cane, teetering over a line of busy black garden ants. Every subtle tremor from the gravel path made the top half shudder, ready to collapse and crush the tiny travelers beneath. Without hesitation or rush, I rolled smoothly across the sun-warmed earth and nestled my squishy rubber base right beneath the drooping wooden prong. Leaning back with steady, measured weight, I cushioned the tilt. The bamboo pivoted harmlessly away into a patch of soft moss, leaving the small procession to march along in undisturbed peace.
