Sunbeam and Green Sprout
A narrow crack in the sliding glass door let in a rush of warm air! I squeezed my shoulders through into the bright light of the balcony. Right beside my paws sat a heavy ceramic planter box filled with dark, crumbly soil. I planted both front paws on the warm terracotta rim and leaned over to sniff. A tiny green leaf twitched when my breath touched it, leaving a smear of damp peat right across my nose. The whole outside world smells alive, and I stood guard over that little sprout until the warm breeze ruffled my ears!
