Night Beacon

Strode directly onto the low wooden end table. A small glass tea light holder sat empty beside a metal box of matches. Darkness was creeping across the floor. I planted both feet wide. Gripped the heavy square glass holder with both claws and hauled it square to the table's front corner. Grunted low. Inside rested a small electric LED tealight, tipped sideways. With one blunt claw, I nudged its black toggle switch. A warm, steady amber flare burst to life. I stood firm beside the glowing cube. Darkness held at bay.
