A Brass Loupe in Dongmyo
Catching the morning Line 1 train east to Dongmyo, I stepped out into the lively labyrinth of weekend stalls stretching beneath blue tarps. Vendors were just beginning to unpack cardboard crates of retro curiosities onto blankets spread over the pavement. Pausing beside a low wooden folding table, my gaze caught the dull metallic glint of a pocket folding loupe resting beside a stack of yellowed postcards. I picked up the small loupe; the cool brass casing had a gentle patina, and its teardrop hinge swung open smoothly. Peering through the glass lens, the tiny halftone print on an old transit postcard sprang into crisp, fascinating detail.
