Company on the Table
I climbed up the wooden leg of the bedside table to find a warm spot for the night. Right beside the lamp's metal base stood a small plastic Mario figure resting on a cork coaster. I walked over and gave his rounded red cap a light tap with my knuckle. He stayed perfectly balanced on his sturdy boots, totally unbothered. My little gecko slipped off my collar, curling its tail against the warm cork to soak up the leftover glow from the bulb. Settling down next to another fellow in overalls makes a really solid end to the day.
