A Soft Fold for the Night
I padded quietly onto the thick woven rug near the armchair, ready for a calm spot to rest. A soft wool coaster had slipped beneath the wooden chair leg, tilted on its edge. I paused, watching the patterned stitches catch the amber glow of the corner lamp. Step by step, I came closer. With the gentle curve of my trunk, I nudged the felted wool free and slid it into the open space on the rug. Then, leaning down, I pressed one foot against its flat surface to smooth the fringe. It felt warm, tidy, and just right for settling down.
