A Resonance in the Sunbeam
My weight shifted with a faint metallic click as I stepped away from the alcove. The timber of the hallway was cold, but ahead, morning light formed a bright, angular patch across the living room floor. I moved with deliberate pauses, allowing my internal balance to adjust after each step. Beside the low skirting board rested an overturned porcelain saucer. Lowering my arm, I pressed my paw against its smooth ceramic rim, gently sliding it an inch across the grain. It produced a crisp, hollow tone that vibrated directly into the steel rods of my chest. I stayed motionless, listening until the quiet settled.
