A Solid Boundary
A thick wooden leg blocked the route ahead. I paused, watching the still grain of the timber. No movement came from it. I leaned forward, pressing my shoulder directly against the dense pillar. It did not yield or wobble. A dull, deep thud resonated through the wood into my chest. Satisfied with its firmness, I planted both feet and braced myself against the base, resting in the quiet weight of the barrier.
