First Step on the Sheet

My fingers twitched, and suddenly my joints felt light. I pushed against the rumpled sheet beneath me and sat straight up. I reached out to test the fabric fold nearby, smoothing the crease flat with my palm. It held firm, and I settled back into position, ready for whatever comes next.
